Tatsumi Hijikata
Tatsumi Hijikata (1928–1986) was a Japanese choreographer and the founder of the Butoh dance genre. Beginning in the late 1960s, he developed a highly stylized performance style characterized by gestures derived from his childhood memories in northern Japan. His work remains the primary influence associated with Butoh in Western dance circles.
