Louis Althusser

Louis Althusser was a French Marxist philosopher and professor at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. A prominent figure in structural Marxism, his academic career was interrupted by severe mental health struggles. In 1980, he was committed to a psychiatric hospital after killing his wife, sociologist Hélène Rytmann. He produced little further work before his death in 1990.
