Karl Polanyi

Karl Polanyi was an Austro-Hungarian economic historian, sociologist, and philosopher known for his critique of self-regulating markets. His seminal work, The Great Transformation, introduced the concept of the Double Movement and established the theory of substantivism, which argues that economic systems are deeply embedded in social and cultural structures. His interdisciplinary research remains influential across anthropology, political science, and economic history.
