Irving Sandler

Irving Sandler (1925–2018) was an American art critic, historian, and educator recognized for his extensive documentation of the mid-century New York art scene. He managed the Tanager Gallery and coordinated the New York Artists Club from 1955 to 1962. Known for his impartial observations, Sandler provided firsthand accounts of abstract expressionism and chronicled the era's influential conversations at venues like the Cedar Street Tavern.
